**Preface: Several months ago we started noticing that the prayers were getting longer and longer at our house. This was definitely our fault because about this time, Emmy started praying some really sweet, longer prayers and we were giving her alot of affirmation for that. Well, Easton was NOT going to be outdone…and so began what we like to call, “THE PRAYER WARS.” What are the “prayer wars,” you ask? Well, it is what occurs when your son (whose prayers usually consist of “God is great. God is good. And we thank him for this food. Amen.” ) starts noticing that younger sister is getting alot of praise for her long-winded prayers, so he better step up his game. Ever since then, praying around our house has turned into quite the event. First, Emmy begins her prayer and it is like she is attempting to draw it out as long as possible. No joke….when she runs out of things to say, she literally starts looking around the room and naming random objects just to pray for longer. She just starts naming them. Not even thanking God for them, just naming them, like this….”and sheets. and books. and doors. and lights. and hair. and, and, and.” You get the point. It goes on forever while I am meanwhile praying to myself, “Please God, let it be over soon.” Finally it does end and then it is Easton’s turn. When it’s his turn to pray, it is literally like he had a mental stopwatch going during Emmy’s prayer and it his life’s ambition to “out pray” her and beat her time. Needless to say, his prayers have therefore been getting more and more interesting. Here is a little tidbit for your enjoyment from yesterday evening’s prayer in which he was trying to stretch it out as long as possible to beat his sister.
Easton: After 5 minutes of previous praying he started in on this line of prayer… “And God you are so powerful. You are the most powerfulest God ever. You are more powerful than anyone. It is your beard that makes you so powerful. That beard is the most powerfulest beard I have ever seen and it is so powerful God. I really like your beard because it is powerful, and long, and strong, and big, and POWERFUL. Thank you God for your beard.” (Hmmm…apparently he has seen some pictures of Jesus beard and is very impressed.)
Emmy: (under her breath the entire time Easton is praying) “Say AMEN. Say Amen, brother. Mom, make brother say Amen. It’s time for his prayer to be over.”
Apparently she didn’t appreciate the powerfulness of Jesus’ beard. Guess we better work on that. Maybe Emmy’s lack of appreciation of the powerfulness of JC’s beard can be a topic of prayer for tomorrow night….that should be interesting.
